What does working with you actually involve?
You book sessions with me on a session-by-session basis. I set you up with an interactive portal through which I send you exercises. Typically, you receive an assignment each week, complete it between sessions and then discuss it with me in the next session and then the cycle repeats. Depending on where you are in the career process, the frequency at which we meet.
What is the most annoying thing you will say when we work together?
It depends.
How many sessions do I need?
It depends. It specifically depends on which career question you are trying to solve. I typically work with 3 phases: Identify, Secure, and Excel; frequency depends on which phase and your specific availability and need. Within the ‘Identify’ phase we typically meet weekly. In the ‘Secure’ and ‘Excel’ phases, we meet ad hoc at your request. These frequencies are all specific to each client and depend on: the speed at which you complete the exercises, how long it takes us to analyze each exercise, and any other career issues we tackle along the way (e.g. applying to new jobs, responding to executive search conversations, negotiating offers, navigating conflicts / opportunities in your current work).
Do I need to work with you across all 3 phases?
No. In fact, I want you to feel confident in navigating your career to achieve happiness and satisfaction. Which means we can work modularly. The vast majority of my clients need help with the “Identify” phase. I always say that this where my clients get the most value from working with me.
What do you charge?
I operate on a sliding scale. Not everyone who needs my services can afford them. I calibrate a benchmark rate and then offer the majority of my clients services at that rate so that I can take on a small group of low/no-fee clients.
Why do you call yourself a strategist?
I run a repeatable, discovery-oriented process that has helped people at a variety of starting points with a variety of goals find happiness and satisfaction in careers that are specific to them. There are clear actionable steps at each step of the process and each phase has a clear deliverable.
Why can’t I do this with AI?
You absolutely could, but I would encourage you to think deeply about what you need and whether AI is the right way to fulfill that need. The critical difference for me comes down to a question of objectives and values. I have one clear objective: I want to help you find careers that bring you satisfaction and joy. If I do my job correctly, you develop the skills and confidence to navigate your career successfully independently, and you engage with me on your own terms as your career evolves. At this moment, the stated objectives of all the frontier labs are to drive adoption of these tools. They are designed to be engaging and to keep you using them. The easiest way to engage you is to tell you what you want to hear whether that is confirming or adversarial; but it isn’t always what you need to hear. I will always tell you what I think you need to hear and, because we work session-by-session, if that is not useful to you, you have the freedom and control to do with that as you please.
